On February 21st, 2017, The Dunn County Sherriff’s Office took a report of a stolen truck from the Village of Boyceville. Over the next several days information was received regarding sightings or possible locations of the stolen vehicle in Dunn and Barron Counties.


On February 22nd, 2017 at 7:21 p.m information was received from an individual that Cody Metzger along with a female passenger wished to hide the truck at the reporter’s residence. Deputies responded to this area. At 7:29 p.m. hours a Dunn County Deputy advised he was out with the stolen vehicle and two other vehicles at Hwy 64 and 390th Street in the Township of Sheridan. The deputy advised the operator of the stolen vehicle had fled on foot and requested K-9 assistance. Deputy Spenle and K-9 Chief initiated a track and at 9:18 p.m. hours Cody A. Metzger M/W 30 years of age was found hiding at a farm on Cty TK F in a pile of round bales and taken into custody without incident. Metzger was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle Without Owner’s Consent as well as held on a Probation Hold. Metzger’s female passenger Paige M Rainey F/W 22 years of age was taken into custody at the stolen vehicle’s location for Operating a Motor Vehicle Without Owner’s Consent- Passenger and a Probation Hold.


As a result of this follow up investigation, it was discovered that two male subjects, one being the owner of the stolen vehicle, had observed and pursued the stolen vehicle prior to law enforcements arrival. During this pursuit they had both fired several rounds from handguns from their moving vehicle at the stolen vehicle. They had then boxed in and struck the stolen vehicle prior to law enforcement arrival. These subjects were identified as Robert J. Fawcett M/W 22 years of age, the owner of the stolen vehicle, and passenger David W. Becker M/W 27 years of age. On February 23rd, 2017, both were taken into custody and initially charged with 1st-Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety.

On Monday, February 13, 2017 at approximately 3:19 AM the Dunn County E-911 Center received a report of a pickup truck versus train crash at the railroad crossing at County Highway S near the intersection of State Highway 170. Dunn County Sheriff’s Deputies, Colfax Fire, Colfax Rescue, Dunn County First Responders, and a Mayo-One Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to the scene.


Upon arrival at the scene deputies found that a pickup truck had been struck by a westbound train and sustained extensive damage. The male driver, of rural Wheeler, was the lone occupant in the vehicle. Deputies and medical personnel attempted life saving measures but were unsuccessful. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene by the Dunn County Medical Examiner’s Office.


It appears that the truck was stopped, facing north bound on County Highway S on the tracks at the time of the crash.


The crash remains under investigation by deputies from the Dunn County Sheriff’s Office and the Canadian National Railroad Police.


The young man killed in yesterday morning’s crash has been identified as Andrew R. Lee, age 27.

He was driving a 2000 Chevy, Pickup.

On Saturday, January 14, 2017 at about 11:26 p.m. the Dunn County E911 Center received a report of three individuals being disorderly at the Veteran Center of Menomonie located in the Town of Menomonie. The caller reported that one of the subjects had displayed a small handgun and that after being asked to leave, the three individual had slashed approximately 15 car tires on 12 different vehicles.


Deputies from the Dunn County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and found that the suspects had already left the center. Deputies obtained information about the incident and the suspects involved and requested assistance form the Menomonie Police Department check a local motel that had been mentioned by one of the suspects. Officers from the Menomonie Police Department went to that motel and made contact with the three subjects.


When deputies arrived at the motel they made contact with the three individuals and asked their side of the story. When deputies completed their questioning of the suspects, they arrested the three suspects for Felony criminal damage to property and Disorderly Conduct. A third subject was also charged with Carrying a Handgun in a Tavern. All three suspect were arrested and transported to the Dunn County Jail.
