The Dunn County Sheriff's Office provides contract law enforcement services for municipalities, organizations, and community events. Services can range from dedicated coverage for a single event to ongoing agreements for municipal law enforcement services.

Community & Special Events

Community events such as fairs, festivals, and other large gatherings sometimes require a dedicated law enforcement presence beyond normal patrol staffing. The Dunn County Sheriff's Office can provide contract law enforcement services for those events. This allows for dedicated personnel assigned specifically to the event, while regular patrol coverage throughout the county remains uninterrupted. Requests for supplemental coverage are reviewed based on the nature and size of the event, public safety considerations, and personnel availability.

Municipal Law Enforcement Services

Municipalities may contract with the Dunn County Sheriff’s Office for dedicated law enforcement services tailored to the needs of their community. Contract services may include an assigned Deputy Sheriff who provides regular law enforcement coverage within the municipality, including traffic and ordinance enforcement, criminal investigations, community engagement, problem-solving, and coordination with municipal officials.

Under a municipal contract, a Deputy Sheriff can be assigned to provide dedicated law enforcement services within a community. The assigned deputy becomes a consistent and familiar presence, getting to know residents, businesses, community organizations, and local officials while serving as a primary point of contact for local law enforcement needs.

At the same time, the deputy remains a member of the Dunn County Sheriff’s Office and is supported by the resources of the larger agency. This includes additional patrol personnel, supervisors, investigators, records and administrative staff, evidence management, training, technology, specialized equipment, and other law enforcement resources. Additional deputies and specialized personnel are also available to assist when incidents require resources beyond those of the assigned deputy.

Yes. Contract services can be arranged for fairs, festivals, races, community celebrations, and other events where dedicated or supplemental law enforcement coverage is desired. Requests are reviewed based on the event, staffing needs, personnel availability, and other public-safety considerations. Requests regarding special events should be directed to the Captain of the Field Services Division who can be reached during normal business hours at the Sheriff's Office (715)232-1564.

How much does contracting services cost?

There is no single cost for contract services. Costs depend upon the type and level of service requested, staffing, hours of coverage, equipment, and other provisions of the agreement. Municipal contracts are developed based upon the needs of the community and must be mutually agreed upon by the municipality and the Dunn County Sheriff’s Office.

Does a contract deputy become part of our community?

Yes. Under a municipal contract, a Deputy Sheriff may be regularly assigned to the contracting community and serve as a familiar point of contact for residents, businesses, and municipal officials. Although employed by the Dunn County Sheriff’s Office, the deputy’s assigned duties and responsibilities are focused on the needs of the contracting community.

What happens when the assigned deputy is off duty or unavailable?

The community continues to receive law enforcement services from the Dunn County Sheriff’s Office. Other patrol deputies respond to calls for service, and additional personnel are available when an incident requires more resources than a single deputy can provide. The Sheriff's Office provides 24/7 law enforcement coverage to all areas of the County that don't have full-time law enforcement coverage.
