The Dunn County Sheriff's Office is concerned about keeping the community informed about the operations of the Sheriff's Office. One of the ways we accomplish this is by regularly keeping the news media, and therefore the public, informed of the events involving the Sheriff's Office and its personnel.

Press releases are generated by field supervisors and contain factual information about an event. Press releases are approved by command staff and then distributed to local news media as soon as possible.

Title
Snowmobile Crash - Town of Lucas

On January 30, 2010 at 8:25 PM, the Dunn County Emergency Communication Center received a 911 call reporting a single snowmobile crash with injuries, on the snowmobile trail west of 203rd Street in the Township of Lucas.

Personnel from the Dunn County Sheriff's Office, Menomonie Fire Department, Wisconsin DNR, and Lifelink helicopter responded to the scene.

The crash scene was about a half mile off the road, into the woods, on the snowmobile trail. Responders were able to get to the crash scene with the use of a Sheriff's Office S.U.V., a Menomonie Fire Ranger with tracks and a DNR four wheeler. The patient was transported out to the road on a rescue sled donated by Dunn County snowmobile clubs, The Boyceville Snow Jammers, and the Tainter Trail Tamers.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered that the lone snowmobile had collided with a tree. It appeared that the operator was attempting to negotiate a curve in the trail when he collided with the tree. A friend of the operator came upon the scene a few minutes after the crash and found his friend injured and unconscious and called 911 from his cell phone.

The operator of the snowmobile, a 30 year old man from Clear Lake, was airlifted by Lifelink helicopter service to Luther Hospital in Eau Claire, WI, where he remains in critical condition.
